American Mastodon

A Picture I took in October of the skeleton of an American Mastodon at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in Toronto. The American Mastodon was a large hairy elephant related to the Mammoths. However, they had teeth meant for browsing leaves and branches rather then grass like mammoths. They also had a pair of small tusks on their lower jaw that neither Mammoths or modern elephants had. This particular Mastodon had lost its left tusk during its lifetime, rather then it being missing from the dig site.
